Quiz Wednesday. Map project due October 5th
On Wednesday we will have our second quiz. Topics on the quiz will include:
Longitude
Latitude
the Prime Meridian
the International Date Line
the Equator
the hemispheres of the Earth
cardinal directions
intermediary directions
Map Features
title
scale
key
compass rose
grid system
inset map
We also have a two part Map project due Oct. 5.
Part I - You have just discovered a new continent! draw a map of this new land. The Map must include the following:
the 6 features of a good map (title, key, scale, grid, compass rose, and inset map).
15 land forms
and 5 natural resources
Aside from these conditions you can do what ever you want with the map. Make it as big or as small as you want. It can be colorful or black and white, as long as it is neat and clear I don't care.
Part II - Write a minimum three paragraph essay, ad or brochure about you new land. The purpose of the ad is to lure new colonists (settlers) to your continent. Write about all the great land forms and natural resources available to the new colonists. Feel free to lie about how easy life in your new land will be! Don't worry its OK, Lief Erickson did it too.
Extra Credit: In your own words! Who was Lief Erickson and how did he lie. One paragraph will get you 5 points on a quiz or 2 points on a test. Earn 10 points on a quiz by creating a poster about Lief and his lie.
